If you deleted something by mistake in InfraNest, this article shows you how to bring it back — anyone on your team can do it, no need to contact support.

## Overview

- You have **14 days** to restore a deleted item yourself.
- This covers Monitors, Automations, Dashboards, alert destinations, Maintenance windows, saved templates (automation, DNS and firewall), Tags, Roles, custom fields and Status Pages.
- Nothing runs while an item is deleted — restoring it brings everything back exactly as it was.

## Undo right after deleting

1. After you delete something, a message appears in the corner with an **Undo** button.
2. Click **Undo** and the item comes straight back, exactly as it was.
3. Don't worry if the message disappears after about ten seconds — that isn't your only chance to restore it. You can still find it later.

## Restore something deleted earlier

1. Go to the page the item lived on and look for **Recently deleted** near the bottom of the list:
   - **Monitors** — the **Monitors** page, under the list of monitors.
   - **Automations** — the **Automations** page, under the list of rules.
   - **Alert destinations** — the **Alerts** page.
   - **Maintenance windows** — the **Maintenance** page.
   - **Templates** — under the list they belong to: automation templates in the **Template library**, DNS templates and firewall templates on their own pages.
   - **Status pages** — the **Status Pages** page.
   - **Tags, Roles and custom fields** — under **Settings → Recycle bin**, next to their own settings tabs.
   - **Dashboards** — open the dashboard menu (the arrow next to the dashboard's name) and choose **Recently deleted**.
2. If you can't remember where the item lived, go to **Settings → Recycle bin** instead. It lists everything your team deleted in the last 14 days, whatever kind it is, in one place.
3. Each entry shows who deleted it, when, and how many days are left.

4. Click **Restore** and the item returns with everything it had — a monitor keeps its history and settings, an automation keeps its steps, a dashboard keeps its widgets and layout.

## Tips

> [!NOTE]
> A deleted monitor's open incident is closed the moment you delete the monitor, and status-page subscribers aren't told it recovered. The days it spent in the recycle bin don't count as downtime. If it's still down when restored, the next check opens a new incident.

> [!WARNING]
> After 14 days, a deleted item is permanently removed and cannot be recovered.

- A restored dashboard won't take over as your default if you set another one as default in the meantime.
- Plan limits still apply — you may need to remove or upgrade before restoring if you're over your limit.
- A name that's already taken blocks the restore. Rename the new tag, role, custom field, or status page address first, then restore the old one.
- Roles currently in use can't be deleted at all — move members to another role first.
- Dashboards are personal: you'll only see and be able to restore your own deleted dashboards.
- Restoring a role needs permission to manage roles.
- Tags come back attached to everything they were on, and a restored custom field brings back every value anyone entered.
- Deleting a template doesn't undo its work — zones and firewalls already created from it stay as they are.
- You need the same permission to restore an item that you'd need to delete it.

## Troubleshooting

**Servers, domains, DNS zones and records, volumes and firewalls aren't in Recently deleted.** These live in your provider account (Hetzner, Cloudflare, TransIP and so on) — InfraNest just shows you what's there. If one disappears from InfraNest but still exists at your provider, run **Sync integrations** on that integration and it comes back. If you deleted it at the provider itself, restore it there instead.

To prevent accidents with those resources, turn on **Enable delete protection** for the ones that matter.
