Private networks

Private networks let your servers communicate with each other over internal traffic, keeping that traffic off the public internet — useful for anyone who wants faster, more secure communication between their servers.

Overview

• Servers attached to the same private network can talk to each other without going over the public internet.
• This can improve both security and performance for traffic between your servers.
• You can create a network, add subnets, and attach servers directly to it.

Manage networks

1. Go to Networks.
2. Select Create network to set up a new private network, then attach your servers to it.

TipYou can also attach a server to a private network from that server's Networking tab, if you'd rather start from the server itself.

Tips

• Private networks are free to use.
• Keep an eye on Free space in this network so you know how many addresses are still available as you attach more servers.
• Use Labels to tag networks with key=value pairs, making them easier to find and organize later.

Troubleshooting

• If a server won't attach, check that it has an available address in the network's Subnets — you may need to Add subnet first.
• If you can't remove a network, check whether Protected or delete protection is turned on. You'll need to select Turn off delete protection before you can Delete network.
