Manage firewalls

Firewalls control which traffic can reach your servers. This article is for anyone who needs to review, edit, or apply firewall rules across their cloud providers without hunting through separate provider dashboards.

Overview

• Manage cloud firewalls from every connected provider in one place.
• Edit inbound and outbound rules, rename firewalls, and attach them to servers.
• Get warned automatically about risky rules, like open remote access or exposed databases.

Edit a firewall

1. Go to Firewalls and open one (or open a server and go to its Firewalls tab).
2. Edit the Rules — direction, protocol, port, and the Source IPs or Destination IPs ranges.

3. Select Save rules. Each firewall shows how many servers it's Applied to.

From a server, you can also Enable, Disable, Reset, or Edit the firewall applied to it.

Rename a firewall

1. Click the firewall's name at the top of its page.
2. Type the new Firewall name.
3. Press Enter to confirm.

The name updates at your provider too, so it stays consistent everywhere.

NoteTransIP firewalls can't be renamed — each one belongs to a single VPS and carries that server's name.

Protect another server with a firewall you already have

1. Open the firewall and select Attach a server in the Applied to panel — or open the server and select Attach on its Servers in this account card.
2. Pick the server (or the firewall, from the server side) and select Confirm. Protection starts immediately.
3. To stop protecting a server, select the Remove icon next to it in the Applied to list.

NoteYou can only combine a firewall and a server from the same provider account, so anything shown in the list will work.

The Firewall Advisor

As you review a firewall, InfraNest flags risky exposure — like SSH from anywhere, RDP from anywhere, or a database port exposed publicly — with an explanation and a Fix now option, so dangerous rules are caught before they cause trouble.
