Move your domains to a registrar you already use, when it's cheaper — a help-center article for anyone managing domains in InfraNest.
Overview
- InfraNest watches what your connected registrars charge, and tells you on the Domains Overview when moving domains to a registrar you already use would save you money — for example, "Save €840 a year by moving 37 domains to registrars you already use."
- You don't have to do the transfer yourself. InfraNest unlocks each domain, starts the transfer, follows it until it lands, and puts your settings back the way they were.
- The domain stays registered to exactly the same person or company — InfraNest never changes that during a move.
Move domains
- Open Domains. On the Overview, choose Review the moves.
- Tick the domains to move. Domains that can move now are ticked for you.
- Choose Move N to … for the registrar they move to. You can move up to 25 domains at a time.
- Check the confirmation: what the transfers cost in total — paid from your account at the new registrar — and what they save a year.
- Choose Move, and confirm it is you (with your passkey, authenticator code or password).
NoteYou're asked to confirm every time, because a move changes who holds your domains and spends money.
The Registrar moves list on the overview shows where each domain has got to. You can close the page — it keeps going.
What InfraNest does for each domain
- Unlocks it at the old registrar.
- Asks the old registrar for the transfer code and starts the transfer at the new one — in the same step.
- Waits for the registry. That usually takes up to five days; you get an email when a transfer starts, and when it lands or fails.
- Puts the transfer lock, WHOIS privacy and auto-renew back as they were, at the new registrar.
WarningChanging who a domain is registered to during a move would lock a .com-style domain against transfer for 60 days, so InfraNest never does this.
The transfer code
InfraNest never saves a transfer code. When the old registrar hands the code out through its API, InfraNest fetches it and passes it straight to the new registrar. When it does not, the confirmation asks you to paste each code from your account at the old registrar; it is used once, for the transfer, and not kept. The list shows only that a code was received, never the code itself.
Troubleshooting
The confirmation and the Registrar moves list say why a domain can't move yet, next to the domain:
- It uses its registrar's own DNS — that DNS leaves with the registration. In the plan, choose Move their DNS first: InfraNest moves those domains' DNS, and once that is done they show as ready to move.
- It expires within 30 days — renew it where it is first.
- The old registrar does not say who it is registered to — add the domain's contact first.
- The new registrar would refuse the transfer — for example, its account balance is too low. Nothing was ordered; fix the reason shown and try again.
- The transfer did not go through — the domain page says why, and so does the item on Home.
