A sandbox is a free practice version of InfraNest filled with sample data, meant for anyone who wants to try the API, an AI assistant, or a script without any risk of affecting real infrastructure.
Overview
- Gives you a safe copy of InfraNest with sample DNS zones, records, monitors and a server already set up.
- Nothing you do in it reaches the outside world — no real DNS changes, no real monitor checks, no alerts or emails sent.
- It's private to you, free, and doesn't count towards your organizations.
Create your sandbox
- Go to My account → Developer.
- Select Create a sandbox. InfraNest creates it, fills it with sample DNS zones, records, monitors and a server, and switches you to it.
NoteYou need to be in at least one real organization to create a sandbox. You only get one sandbox, and it's marked Sandbox in the organization switcher.
What happens in it
- Nothing reaches out. DNS changes stay inside InfraNest, monitors are not actually checked, and nothing is sent to a DNS or cloud provider.
- No alerts or emails go out — no email, chat, text message or push notification. What would have been sent is still shown as not sent, so you can see what would have happened.
- It is yours alone. Nobody can be invited into it.
- It is free and does not count towards your organizations.
Make a test token
- While you are in the sandbox, go to My account → Developer as usual.
- Create a token. It will be a test token.
A test token starts with in_test_, so you can tell it apart from a real token. It works only in your sandbox — your real organizations refuse it, and your real tokens don't work in the sandbox.
See the API Tokens article for more on creating tokens.
Connect an AI assistant to it first
- Start connecting Claude or ChatGPT to InfraNest as you normally would.
- On the InfraNest permission page, pick your Sandbox instead of a real organization.
The assistant then reads only the sample data, so you can see what it answers before it reads anything real. See the articles on connecting Claude or ChatGPT, and connecting an app with "Connect with InfraNest," for details.
Start again
- Go to My account → Developer.
- Select Reset sandbox.
Everything in the sandbox is removed and the sample data comes back.
TipYou can reset your sandbox up to 30 times an hour, so feel free to experiment freely.
When it is removed
- After 90 days without use — meaning no visit in the app and no call made with its test tokens. We'll email you 14 days before removal; using it once keeps it active.
- When you leave your last real organization, your sandbox goes too.
Creating a new one only takes one click.
