Get notifications on your phone

InfraNest can alert you on your phone when something urgent happens, such as a monitor going down, even when InfraNest isn't open.

Turn on alerts for urgent InfraNest problems, like a monitor going down, right on your phone — even when InfraNest isn't open. This works from your phone's browser; there's no app store app to install.

Overview

  • Get alerted on your phone the moment something urgent happens, without having InfraNest open.
  • On iPhone and iPad, this only works once InfraNest is added to your Home Screen.
  • On Android, it works directly in Chrome, with or without installing InfraNest.
  • You control what counts as urgent, and can turn alerts off per device at any time.

Set up notifications on iPhone and iPad

On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work in InfraNest installed on your Home Screen. They don't work in a Safari tab.

  1. Install InfraNest: in Safari tap Share then Add to Home Screen. See Install InfraNest as an app for details.

  2. Open InfraNest from the Home Screen icon and sign in.

  3. Tap Turn on in the Get alerts on this device suggestion at the top. Or go to My account → Notifications and tap This browser.

  4. When your iPhone asks, tap Allow.

  5. Tap Send a test under Notifications when InfraNest is closed. A notification with the InfraNest logo should appear within a few seconds.

If you tapped "Don't Allow"

Your iPhone won't ask a second time, so the change has to be made in your iPhone's settings:

  1. Open the Settings app.

  2. Go to Apps and find InfraNest under the name you gave the Home Screen icon (for example InfraNest), shown with the InfraNest logo. It has its own page, like any app. It is not under Safari. On iOS 17 or older, look under Settings → Notifications instead.

  3. Tap Notifications and turn on Allow Notifications.

  4. Go back to InfraNest and tap Turn on.

If InfraNest isn't listed, remove it from your Home Screen (press and hold the icon, then Remove App), add it again from Safari, and tap Turn on. Your iPhone will ask again.

The count on the icon

The InfraNest icon shows how many things still need you in the organisations you turned push on for. With one, it's the same number as that organisation's bell. If you don't see it, check that Badges is on in Settings → Apps → InfraNest → Notifications.

Set up notifications on Android

On Android, notifications work in Chrome, whether or not you install InfraNest. Installing it gives the notifications InfraNest's own name in your phone's settings.

  1. Open InfraNest in Chrome, or from its Home Screen icon if you installed it, and sign in.

  2. Go to My account → Notifications and tap This browser, or Turn on in the suggestion at the top.

  3. Tap Allow.

  4. Tap Send a test to check it works.

If you tapped "Block"

  • In Chrome: tap the icon left of the address, then Permissions → Notifications → Allow, and reload the page.
  • In the installed app: open your phone's Settings → Apps → InfraNest → Notifications and turn them on.
  • Still nothing? Check that Chrome itself may show notifications: Settings → Apps → Chrome → Notifications.

Many Android phones show a dot on the InfraNest icon when a notification is waiting. Whether it shows a number depends on your phone.

Choose what reaches your phone

  • Urgent problems only, unless you choose more: on the Where tab of My account → Notifications, the Push column sets it per kind of notification.
  • One notification per problem. When it's fixed, the notification is replaced by a quiet "back up" one.
  • Your quiet hours, do not disturb and away settings apply, just as for email.
  • If you're in more than one organisation, the notification names the organisation.
  • Turn push on separately on each device, and in each organisation you want alerts from: your phone and your laptop each have their own switch, and so does each organisation.

NoteThings on your phone can still hide notifications even once they're turned on. Focus, Do Not Disturb or Sleep (iPhone) and Do not disturb or Bedtime mode (Android) hide notifications unless you allow InfraNest in that mode. Battery saving on some Android phones can also delay alerts — set InfraNest or Chrome to Unrestricted battery use if alerts arrive late. With Low Data Mode or no connection, an alert is kept for up to an hour and delivered when you're back online.

Stop notifications on your phone

  1. On the phone itself: go to My account → Notifications and tap Turn off.
  2. From another device, for example a lost phone: go to My account → Apps with access and tap Revoke next to it.
  3. Signing out on the phone also stops them.
